Comparison - Tub vs. Box

Last year at Brickworld, the Lego Stores had the green Pick-A-Brick tub, which were really convenient compared to the cups. Unfortunately, the tubs were a temporary deal, and they were discontinued. It looked like this year everyone would be back to filling cups. However, I was surprised to see that they also had some white boxes which could be used for Pick-A-Brick.

Of course, I was interested in how the two compared in capacity. So, I did a little test.

I had this box of parts:

And wondered how much of this tub it would fill:

turns out, they're about the same:

Doh! At $50.00 more, it doesn't seem like such a good deal.

I think it depends on how well the pieces you buy will fit in the cups. Another thing to consider is the fact that the cup prices themselves have gone up compared to last year.

Back in March 2008 at the BW coordinator meeting, they mentioned that they were going to try to do the P.A.B. by the pound, since the green tubs were discontinued.  I guess that didn't work out.  I can imagine having a large scale would be pretty troublesome for the stores.

It works for grocery stores.
